The series of guides shown below are our standard
choices. We use REC single foot Recoil guides as the
running guides on all our switch and single hand rods up
to 10 weight and spey rods through 7 weight. We feel
Recoil guides are the toughest available today. Pacific
Bay single foot guides are used on switch and single
hand rods over 10 weight and spey rods over 7 weight.
REC Recoil tip tops are used where Recoil single foot
guides are used and Pacific Bay tip tops are used where
Pacific Bay single foot guides are used. Out standard
color choices in either guide type are silver or black.
We use these different types of guides as Recoil guides
may not be the best choice on heavier rods where the
guide set and fly line is subjected to more stress while
fighting larger fish.
For stripping guides, we use American Tackle Ringlock
titanium guides most often. Standard weight titanium
ringlocks are used on switch and single hand rods up to
10 weight and spey rods through 7 weight, while titanium
Typhoon ringlocks are used on switch and single hand
rods over 10 weight and spey rods over 7 weight. We
use these two different weights of stripping guides to
strike a balance between weight and durability. We also
offer both types of stripping guides in a titanium
coated, stainless steel frame with a gold ring to match
with gold color schemes.
Each guide pictured below is saltwater safe although
every type, excluding Titanium and REC RECOIL guides,
should be rinsed daily in freshwater.
As we have many thoughts on guide sizing and spacing,
please contact us to discuss this aspect of rod design.
